Redwood Fishing Adventures is a single-guide operation based at Cloverdale, California, at the top of the Russian River valley, with more than twenty-five years of experience on the river behind it. It is a small, direct business – enquiries and bookings go to one phone number and one email address rather than through an agency – and it runs a second programme on the Eel, the larger north-coast steelhead drainage further up the coast. Holding permission to float private stretches of the Alexander Valley is the operation’s distinguishing asset, since much of the productive middle river runs between private land and is not otherwise reachable by a guided boat.
