Public Profile Policy

Draft for review by counsel before it is relied on. Version 1.0, effective 6 September 2026. This page explains where the guide and outfitter listings on GuidedFloats came from, what we will and will not publish about a business, and how to get a listing corrected or taken down.

The short version

We built a directory of fishing guides and outfitters from information those businesses already publish about themselves. Most of them have never heard of us. Every listing is business-level information only, every listing shows where it came from, and any business can have its listing taken down with one request — no login, no reason, no phone call, no one to talk out of it. The page stops being indexed within minutes and comes down within 72 hours.

Why these pages exist

GuidedFloats is organised around water rather than around advertising. A river or lake page is only useful if it can answer “who guides here”, so the directory was built first and the businesses in it were added from public records. A listing is not an advertisement anyone bought and it is not a review. It is a factual entry saying that a business publicly advertises guided trips on a particular water.

Every business appears as two linked pages: a guide page about the trip on the water, and an outfitter page about the business itself.

Where the information came from

Every listing is sourced before it is written, and the source is named on the page itself. We use two levels of sourcing:

  • The business’s own website. Preferred and used for the large majority of listings: the business’s live domain, publishing its own phone number, with a page that names the water we have filed it under.
  • Two independent public sources. Used only when a business has no website of its own. Two separate, independently published sources must agree on the business name, the phone number and the fact that it guides that water. Typical sources are state fish and wildlife or outfitter-licensing rosters, chamber of commerce and tourism-board directories, and local press. A syndicated blurb republished in five places counts once, not five times. A social-media or business-listing page can be one of the two, never the only one.

If no source states the town the business operates from, we do not publish the listing at all. If a phone number appears in only one place, we do not publish the phone number.

We do not source from competing booking platforms. FishingBooker, Captain Experiences, Guidesly and Fishidy are never used as a source at any level. We do not buy contact lists, we do not scrape private or gated data, and we do not use anything a business has put behind a login.

What we publish — and what we will not

An unclaimed listing carries only business-level information:

  • The business name, and the town and state it operates from.
  • The business phone number and website the business itself publishes.
  • The waters, species and trip types the business advertises.
  • A starting price, only where the business publishes one.
  • Two short written descriptions, written by us from the sources above.
  • A line naming the source the listing was built from.

We do not publish home addresses, personal mobile numbers, personal email addresses, the names of individual guides or employees, licence or permit numbers, dates of birth, prices we could not verify, photographs taken from a business’s website, or anything about a named private individual. If a sole trader’s business number is also their personal number, that is the number they have published as their business line — and if they would rather it were not on our page, one request removes it or the whole listing.

What a listing is not

An unclaimed listing means we have not spoken to the business. It is not a rating, a review, an endorsement, a recommendation, a partnership, or evidence that anyone has checked a licence, a permit or an insurance policy. We do not rank unclaimed listings above claimed ones, and no business has paid to be in the directory.

Why unclaimed pages are indexed

Unclaimed listings are visible to search engines on purpose. The most common way a guide finds out we have built them a page is by searching for their own business name. Hiding the pages would leave businesses unable to find, correct or remove their own listing. The trade for that visibility is the removal promise on this page, and we intend to keep it.

Correcting a listing

Anyone can send a correction — you do not need an account and you do not need to be the owner. Use the “Suggest a correction” route on our contact page, or email hello@guidedfloats.com. Tell us the page and what is wrong. We aim to fix a clear factual error within 3 business days, and we will tell you what we changed. If we cannot verify a correction from a public source we will say so rather than publish something we cannot stand behind.

Removing a listing

Every unclaimed profile page carries a panel headed “Ask us to remove this profile”. One form, no login, no reason required. You can also email hello@guidedfloats.com from the business address, or call the number on the contact page.

What happens after you ask:

  • Immediately. The page is marked no-index for search engines and drops out of the guide directory and the water pages, so it stops being listed anywhere on the site.
  • Within 72 hours. The page is taken down. So is the paired guide or outfitter page for the same business, so the business disappears from the site as a whole rather than half of it.
  • Afterwards. We do not re-add a removed business from a later sourcing run, and we do not call you to talk you out of it. If you change your mind, email us and we will put it back.

The 72-hour step runs automatically. It does not wait on anyone reading an inbox, and it happens whether or not we reply to you first. Requests are also logged for a human to see: they land in the site’s request queue and are sent to hello@guidedfloats.com.

We keep a record of the request itself — the name and email given, the page, and the time — so we can show the request was made and honoured. We keep that record for 24 months and it is never used to market to you.

Claiming instead of removing

If the page is broadly right and you would rather own it than lose it, claiming is free. We verify you through your website domain or by calling your published business number, and you then control the descriptions, photos, waters, rates and availability. What claiming commits you to is set out in the Listing Agreement, which you accept at the moment you claim. Plans and pricing are on /for-guides/.
