Old South Expeditions

Old South Expeditions is the guiding operation of Capt. Brian Sawyer, based at 5824 S. Mickeys Pt. in Homosassa, Florida. The business works both water and marsh: light-tackle and fly charters make up the fishing side, while the same outfit also sells waterfowl hunting and spring turkey hunting, keeping a 17-foot Timber Creek duck boat alongside the flats skiff for that work. Sawyer is originally from Lakeland and spent his childhood afternoons on his grandparents’ dock, and he now covers a long stretch of coastline – his range runs from Yankeetown north and west as far as Lanark Village and Panama City, with the water around Homosassa as home base. Bookings and payment run through the company’s own site, which also carries galleries of past fishing charters, waterfowl outings and turkey hunts.

The same operation also guides the Chassahowitzka River, which its own site covers in a set of dedicated pages describing the river and the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge it runs through, in Citrus County. Those pages work spotted seatrout, redfish, snook and sheepshead on the river and inshore and put the business on the tarpon migration in deeper water as the season turns. The Chassahowitzka is handled as part of the same Nature Coast backcountry the business guides from Homosassa rather than from a separate base.
