Trico Unlimited fishes the Battenkill out of Arlington with Brew Moscarello, an Orvis-endorsed Fly-Fishing Guide of the Year finalist, and a guide team carrying seventy-five years of combined fly fishing experience in southern Vermont. Days are sold three ways: a half-day trip, which is the outfit’s most popular booking and its most balanced, a full day for a longer and more comprehensive outing, and a two-hour session for an introduction or a piece of technique refinement. The teaching rests on reading water, timing hatches, understanding insects and fishing with the disciplined restraint this particular river demands, an approach built up across four decades on the water. The Battenkill is one of the East’s premier wild trout streams and the guides fish it as such.
