Three Rivers Rafting
Lowell, Idaho · Fishes Lochsa River
The Lochsa is run here as a spring river and nothing else: it is free-flowing, so each year snowmelt swells it into big water, and the season is stated simply as May and June. Trips leave from Three Rivers Resort at Lowell at half past eight in the morning and come in four shapes. The day trip covers the classic stretch; the Goat Range run, also called the Black Canyon section, takes in what the outfitter calls the steepest gradient on the Lochsa; the marathon is thirty miles of rapids in a single push, described without much softening as the endurance day, where you will be tired at the end; and an overnight trip runs two days on the water. Rafts carry four to eight people depending on water level, the recommended minimum age is thirteen, guides are certified in CPR and first aid, and photographs are included with every trip. Alcohol is prohibited on the river.
