Trail Expeditions
Houston, Texas · Fishes Neches River, Pine Island Bayou
The trip launches from the LNVA Saltwater Barrier boat ramp just north of Beaumont and is described as a four point eight mile loop, relatively flat and an easy paddle upstream. Paddlers work up the Neches River, take the left fork into Pine Island Bayou, cross into Cook’s Lake, explore the moss-draped slough between Cook’s Lake and Scatterman Lake and then come back out to the Neches. The riparian corridor of the river is the selling point, described as supporting great diversity. The tour is guided and priced at eighty-five dollars a head. Kayaks are supplied from a fleet that includes the Eddyline Caribbean 12, Sky 10, Skylark, Rio, Sandpiper, Equinox, Journey and Denali along with the Shasta tandem. This is a scenic paddle rather than a fishing trip.
