The store outfits for floating what it calls the crystal clear water of the Frio River, hiring out hand-painted tubes and kayaks for small groups or large ones. Canoes are deliberately not rented for this river and the business says plainly that it does not recommend them here, which tells you something about the shallow, gravel-bottomed character of the Frio through this reach. Anglers are served from the same counter: fishing tackle and fly fishing supplies are stocked alongside camping gear, and live minnows and worms are kept in the shop. The Leakey store sits on US Highway 83 South, which follows the river valley, so the launch and take-out runs above and below town are a short drive from the door.
