Hooked Outfitting works the Madison River out of Ennis, Montana. The upper river above Ennis is the core of the season, fished from the first warm days of spring in April until late October, while the lower Madison below Ennis Lake, running through Bear Trap Canyon toward the Missouri confluence near Three Forks, fills in April through June and again from September into fall. After runoff the hatch sequence moves through salmonflies, caddis, golden stoneflies, pale morning duns and yellow sallies; earlier in spring it is skwalas, blue winged olives and Mother’s Day caddis. Float trips carry a maximum of two anglers per boat and guide. A full day runs $800 and includes lunch, non-alcoholic beverages, all flies, rods, reels and tackle, and shuttle service to the water. A four hour half day float for one or two anglers is $350 and includes flies and non-alcoholic beverages but no lunch. Wade trips, spin fishing and wildlife floats are offered in the same format, and Jefferson River and Ennis Lake days are available as well.
