Guided fishing works the Green River tailwater below Flaming Gorge Dam in three named sections. Section A runs seven miles from the dam to Little Hole and carries the highest density of trout, with gin clear water suited to sight fishing. Section B, Little Hole to Browns Park, is reached by boat and rewards nymphing and streamer work around varied structure. Section C continues down to Swallow Canyon, remote water with lower trout density but a bigger average size. Floats are sold as one, two and three-day trips, a full day running about eight hours with start times from 7:00am to noon. Spring fishes to midge and cicada hatches, summer to hopper patterns along the banks, fall is called the prime stretch with October singled out, and winter turns technical with midges as water temperatures hold from the low 40s to about 60 degrees. A trip covers drift boat handling, premium rods and reels, scud, midge and hopper patterns, terminal tackle, wading boots, casting instruction, shuttle service, and a fresh lunch and drinks on the water. The river holds over 100,000 wild fish and has not been stocked since the 1960s.
