Blackwater Outdoor Adventures
Parsons, West Virginia · Fishes Cheat River
The outfitter’s pitch for the Cheat is that it offers an easy to reach fishing experience with all the beauty of a remote river, and the section fished most commonly is the upper Cheat River Water Trail. That reach is a mix of big slow pools, mixed riffles, glides and pocket water that is fun to cast into. Trips check in at the St. George River Outpost in Tucker County and are fished from comfortable fishing rafts, with a maximum of two anglers plus the guide in each boat. The season runs April through September, and the outfitter invites anglers to ask about availability for early or late season trips outside that window. A full day is $490 for one angler with each additional angler at $60; a half day is $350 with each additional angler at $30. Both include the guide, a personal flotation device, a snack and the shuttle, with a full lunch on the full day. The minimum age is seven. Smallmouth bass are the year-round target, with trout described as a more seasonal option.
