Floats run on the upper Caddo River above Lake DeGray, in the Ouachita Mountains of southwest Arkansas. The outfitter describes a pool-and-drop river gentle enough for novice paddlers but carrying enough Class I and II rapids to stay interesting, and it picks the route to suit the day’s water level. The 7.5-mile Caddo Gap run finishes back at the floater’s own vehicle, while a shorter low-water route is served by shuttle drivers instead. Canoes, kayaks, tandem kayaks, rafts and tubes are rented with the shuttle included, boat launches run on set Saturday and Sunday hours, and everything is due back by six in the evening. Reservations are asked for on Saturdays, two to five days ahead in peak season.
