Inverness Fishing
Inverness, Florida · Fishes Withlacoochee River
Inverness Fishing is Captain Jim Klopfer’s freshwater guiding in Inverness, in the Withlacoochee valley of west central Florida. He describes the Withlacoochee as a true blackwater river winding 141 miles through the region, and he leans on it in particular when open water is too rough to fish comfortably. Trips are run from a 15 foot Siesta Skiff, a shallow boat suited to the river’s narrow, timbered stretches. The published target list is heavily weighted toward panfish, including bluegill, stumpknocker, redear sunfish, warmouth and rock bass, with crappie and largemouth bass rounding it out. Rates are 300 dollars for four hours with one angler and 350 dollars for two, or 400 and 450 dollars for six hours. Fly tackle is the stated specialty on this water, though spinning and baitcasting gear and live bait are used as conditions call for it. The river is presented as a scenic trip as much as a numbers trip.
