Big Spring Angler
Lewistown, Montana
Big Spring Angler is Brett Shelagowski’s guiding operation out of Lewistown, Montana. It works with licensed Montana outfitters who send clients to the Lewistown area, and all bookings and payments are made to the outfitter rather than the guide: Brandon Bodecker of PRO Outfitters in Helena holds outfitter number 6481, against Brett’s guide number 36796. Trips normally carry a single angler in a two-man Flycraft Stealth inflatable so the guide can give one-on-one attention, with a 13.5-foot Sotar Strike raft and a 16-foot Hyde drift boat held for two anglers or for bigger central Montana rivers, and wade days offered when levels drop too low to float. A trip covers transport to and from lodging in the Lewistown area, lunch and non-alcoholic drinks, and rods, reels, flies and terminal tackle; licences, lodging and personal kit are not included. Brett moved to Montana in 2006 to teach and now teaches seventh-grade biology and driver education, began fly fishing in Michigan in the 1990s, has tied flies since 1995 and ties almost every fly his clients use.
