Highland Park Fish Camp
DeLand, Florida
This is an old Florida fish camp of a type that has largely disappeared, in the same family since 1962, when Derris Rawlins bought the original twelve acres. A third generation runs it now, with licensed captain Bryn Rawlins and Captain James Hillman handling daily operations across roughly thirty acres at 2640 Highland Park Road on the Norris Dead River. The property works as a full base rather than a booking desk: cabins and RV sites, a private launch ramp and marina, rental boats, a bait and tackle counter, and a food truck for meals on site. From the dock the water opens into the 23,000 acre Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge, with Lakes Woodruff and Dexter next door. Astor is about forty five minutes downriver, Silver Glen Springs another forty five beyond it, and Blue Springs roughly an hour and a half upriver.
