In The Bag Guide Service, LLC is Captain Chris Bartsch’s operation, run from 1266 Bond Street in Green Bay, and the Fox is one water in a tight cluster around the bay: Green Bay itself, the Peshtigo and Oconto rivers, Sturgeon Bay and Door County. Bartsch puts thirty years of fishing behind it and says he is on the water more than three hundred days a year, which is what allows a programme that runs open water and ice without a closed season. Musky, whitefish, yellow perch and smallmouth sit alongside walleye across that range. Teaching is written into the trips – clients are shown technique and also fish handling and conservation practice, which matters on a river where most of the spring catch goes back.
