Walker’s Guide Service
Green Lake, Wisconsin
Walker’s Guide Service is a family operation spanning four generations of Walkers around Green Lake, and it works that single water rather than a circuit. Charlie Walker runs it – born and raised on the lake, taught by Ray, Dennis and Al Walker before him – and the business points as readily at the hours he volunteers keeping the fishery in shape as at the fish. The style is unusual for an inland guide service: rather than a bass boat and two rods, this is a large-party pontoon outfit built for a dozen people at a time, which makes it a reunion and corporate proposition as much as a serious angling one. The specialism the business claims for itself is a particular approach to deep lake trout, the fish that the lake’s depth makes possible and that most of Wisconsin cannot offer at all.
