From the Cordell Hull dam StriperFun runs striper charters roughly a hundred miles downstream to the Old Hickory dam just before Nashville, covering the whole Old Hickory pool. This is heavy-tackle river fishing: large rods, heavy-duty reels, fifty-pound test line and titanium hooks, matched to the size the Cumberland’s stripers reach. The charter is five hours and costs $500 for one or two anglers. Anglers bring their own lunch and drinks, and a fishing licence is mandatory and not supplied with the trip. Above the dam the same operation covers the hundred miles of river running down through Celina and Gainesboro from the Kentucky line to Carthage, so a booking can be moved up or down the system depending on where the fish are holding.
