Chrome City Guide Service
Kalama, Washington · Fishes Cowlitz River
Chrome City runs drift boats on the Cowlitz, which its own river page calls one of the most productive salmon and steelhead rivers in the Pacific Northwest. The river carries four distinct runs and the guide books to them in turn: spring Chinook in April and May, summer steelhead through June and July, coho in October and November, and winter steelhead from January into March. Trips are sold in three lengths – a half day of up to four hours, a three-quarter day of up to six, and a full day of up to eight – with a maximum of three anglers aboard. The boat fishes fly, spey, spin, centerpin and bobber presentations depending on the run and the height of the water.
