Float North Georgia
Blue Ridge, Georgia · Fishes Toccoa River
Guided days are floated below the TVA dam at Blue Ridge, where the cold tailwater releases are consistent enough to keep the river fishing through all twelve months, and the guides read the release schedule every morning before setting a put-in. Half day and full day trips are both sold, drift boats carry them, all fly fishing equipment is provided and full days come with lunch. Wild and stocked brown and rainbow trout are the target, with the browns the harder proposition, bigger and more selective about what they will take. Spring brings a lift in insect activity and aggressive feeding, summer turns the fishing over to terrestrial patterns, autumn is the brown trout spawn, and winter is when the larger browns are worth the cold. Beginners are taught to cast on the water; the angler brings clothing for the weather, polarised glasses and a Georgia licence.
