Chrome Chasers Fly Fishing
Forks, Washington · Fishes Queets River
Chrome Chasers Fly Fishing guides the Queets, which its river page calls the most untouched river on the peninsula and the largest drainage on the west slope of the Olympics. Being the largest it is the first to go out of shape, and because of the abundant volcanic clay in its banks it is the last to come back, so winter fishing there is described plainly as hit or miss. Almost the whole river lies inside Olympic National Park, with reservation water in the lower few miles, so guiding on it is very limited, and few recreational anglers are willing to take on the long shuttle needed to float it – which is why a day there is about quality rather than quantity. Flows swing from 5,000 cfs to over 80,000. The river gives up very large fall salmon, chinook to fifty pounds and coho to twenty not uncommon, and steelhead of forty inches and more through winter and spring.
