Upper Canyon Outfitters is a family owned guest ranch and outfitter at 6 Tates Upper Canyon Loop in Alder, in the upper Ruby drainage. Peck and Mary Tate homesteaded the ground in 1910, their son Bill and his wife Bernice opened it to guests in 1981, and four generations of the family live on the property today. It runs lodge rooms and private cabins, serves three family style meals a day built on local ingredients, and keeps an on site store, an event centre and wifi. Horseback riding and hunting packages sit alongside the fishing weeks, which take in the Ruby and its tributaries, the Jefferson, the Madison and Poindexter Slough on the Beaverhead.
