Green Bay, Wisconsin · Fishes Fox River (Wisconsin)
The Fox is fished for walleye on the spring run, from ice-out through April, and the business is explicit about the rule that shapes it: a twenty-eight inch minimum size limit applies on the river from the first of March to the first Saturday in May, so the spring trips are effectively trophy-or-release. Fifty-fish days are described as common at that time of year. Two methods carry the season – jigging live bait and soft plastics, and trolling harnesses and crankbaits – and the choice between them follows the water rather than habit. The river is fished again in autumn, when the same fish drop back through, so the Fox appears at both ends of the calendar rather than only in the famous spring window.
