Ben Turpin Guide Service
Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania · Fishes Brodhead Creek
Ben Turpin guides Brodhead Creek, the Monroe County freestone his own site calls the keystone of fly fishing in the Pocono region and the place American fly fishing started. He describes it as his home stream and breaks it into three sections: the upper end near Analomink, filled with large boulders and pocket water that rewards a short line; the middle river; and the lower reaches running down toward the Delaware. Days are walk-and-wade, and the Brodhead is fished alongside its neighbours – McMichaels Creek, Pocono Creek, the Big Bushkill and the Pohopoco tailwater below Beltzville Reservoir – so a trip can be moved when flow or water temperature goes against the main stem. Spring is the heart of the season, with Hendricksons, caddis and sulphurs, and the delayed-harvest fly-fishing-only water at Resica Falls on the Bushkill keeps a fishable option open year round.
