Coatesville, Pennsylvania · Fishes Little Lehigh Creek, Monocacy Creek
Wild East Outfitters guides walk-and-wade days on Little Lehigh Creek and Monocacy Creek, the Lehigh Valley’s limestone spring creeks. The Little Lehigh rises in Berks County and runs through Lehigh County to its mouth on the Lehigh River; the company’s own account of it is that the water from Route 29 down, where the largest limestone springs come in, holds the best fishing and the highest quality fish, and that the creek still carries good numbers of wild brown trout. The Monocacy is the quieter of the pair – an urban and suburban wild brown trout creek with great hatches, accessed mainly at the Gertrude Fox Conservation Area in Bethlehem. Both fish on a published month-by-month calendar: midges and scuds through the winter, Blue Winged Olives, Blue Quills and Hendricksons in April, sulphurs and Light Cahills in May and June, and tricos and terrestrials in July.
