Green Mountain Angler
Bennington, Vermont · Fishes Batten Kill
Green Mountain Angler floats the Battenkill from an Aire raft, and the river is where the outfit sends anglers after brown trout in particular: the Vermont side is all catch-and-release and carries a name for mystical wild brown trout trophies. The Battenkill’s headwaters rise around Dorset, which the guides describe as their own backyard, and the river runs close to sixty miles down past Manchester and Arlington before crossing into New York near Cambridge. Days are also sold on foot, and on the smaller mountain water that can mean walking anywhere from a third of a mile to more than a mile and climbing over boulders to reach fish. Anglers of every level are taken.
