Bayou Dorcheat is the home water, worked for twelve years, fished on current breaks and eddies and especially where trees have fallen in, with forward-facing sonar used to locate fish holding off the timber. Lake D’Arbonne is one of the regular winter and spring crappie lakes: a North Louisiana Crappie Masters regional was won there in February 2021 with seven fish for eleven pounds. The working tackle is an eleven-foot mid-seat jigging rod, a spinning reel and eight-pound fluorocarbon, fished with hand-tied inch-and-a-half feather jigs in gray and chartreuse with red and silver flash. The boat described on the guide’s own site is a fourteen-foot john boat, run for years without a trolling motor before electronics were added, and the site reports averaging around a thousand white perch over a winter.
