Cutthroat Anglers
Silverthorne, Colorado · Fishes Blue River below Green Mountain Reservoir
This is the northernmost of the three Blue River beats the shop keeps a report on, downstream of the Silverthorne tailwater and of the water north of town, running as a canyon fishery on what Green Mountain Reservoir is releasing before the river turns for its confluence with the Colorado near Kremmling. Because the beat lives on those releases, the shop’s own notes for it turn on storage rather than on hatches: with the reservoir at fifteen per cent capacity the water ran warm and off colour, anglers were told to check flows before making the drive down there, and the canyon was expected to improve as the weather cooled. Brown and rainbow trout hold through the pocket water and the deeper pools, and access below the town comes at several public points. Trips out of the shop are sold as half or full days for anglers ten years and older, with all flies and tackle found; clients gather at the shop in the morning and are driven to whichever fishery is fishing, and a full day opens up more water and allows several locations to be fished in one outing. Refreshments come with a half day, lunch with a full day, and the angler covers their own Colorado licence.
