Fins and Feathers Guide Service runs full-day and half-day float trips on the Gallatin River out of Bozeman, working the river’s lower stretch where floating is permitted. The lower Gallatin holds some of the region’s largest brown trout, drawing experienced anglers who want a shot at bigger fish than the upper river’s dense but smaller population produces. Guides fish from drift boats, covering five to seven hours on the water within a six-to-eight-hour trip day. Rainbow trout and brown trout are the primary targets. The outfitter recommends July through October for floating, when water levels are best suited to drift boat access, and books other home rivers year-round outside that window.
