Fish The Fly Guide Service
Jackson Hole, Wyoming · Fishes Salt River
Below Afton, WY is where the Salt really takes shape as a trout fishery and where floating it becomes a reality. It is best from mid to late June all the way into November. Salmonflies and golden stones are the first insects to pop, followed by gray drakes, yellow sallies, caddis and pale morning duns; August is terrestrial time, with grasshoppers, ants and beetles; September and October bring mahogany duns and blue winged olives. Cutthroat and brown trout are the fish, trophy browns among them, and nymph and streamer work fills in around the dry fly. Fly fishing the Salt is described here as a more intimate experience than the other Jackson Hole area waters.
