Medford, Oregon · Fishes Umpqua River
The South Umpqua is the water Joel Gibson singles out on his own site as one of his favourite places to chase winter steelhead, and he fishes it downstream from the town of Canyonville. The run there is a mix of hatchery and wild fish and can produce steelhead over twenty pounds. Winter and summer steelhead and fall and spring chinook are all worked from a 2017 seventeen-foot Willie drift boat fitted with a heater, while bay trips move to a 2018 twenty-four-foot Willie Raptor. Full days run 7am to 3:30pm at $275 a person and half days four hours at $175, each held with a deposit. The main stem is on the same page, credited with world-class smallmouth bass water from June through September.
