Southeastern Fly
Murfreesboro, Tennessee · Fishes Elk River
The Elk is a smaller Middle Tennessee tailwater near Lynchburg, and Southeastern Fly keeps it as one of its destination rivers, describing relaxing days on good fish counts and good sizes rather than trophy hunting. It is written up as a great nymphing river: springtime is called one of the most entertaining and fun times to be there, a midge fished under a small dry fly works well when the water is clear, and terrestrials are treated as a summertime tactic that is not always the most productive. The river gives up brown trout, rainbow trout and smallmouth, with some fish exceeding twenty inches. The day’s float profiled by Rivers and Feathers put in just below Tims Ford Dam at Highway 50 and drifted nine miles down to Farris Creek, fishing small nymphs under strike indicators through the likely water.
