The Driftless Fly Fishing Company

The Driftless Fly Fishing Company works out of a shop at 208 St. Paul Street SW in Preston, in the bluff country of southeast Minnesota, and is the Orvis endorsed outfitter for the Minnesota Driftless. The South Branch of the Root River runs past the shop and through Preston, and the company notes that this water stays open all year for catch and release. Guides fish it and the surrounding spring creeks on foot and from boats, using a Hyde drift boat and a Flycraft raft depending on flow. A full day for one or two anglers runs $600, with each additional person $100, and a half day walk and wade is $400. Full days include loaner rods and waders, flies, tackle, personal instruction and a streamside lunch, and no trip carries more than four anglers. The shop is open seven days a week, rents gear, teaches classes, and keeps a stream and hatch journal covering caddis, sulphurs, hendricksons, tricos and late summer terrestrials. A South Branch Suite above the shop handles lodging.
