The Fly Rod Shop
Stowe, Vermont · Fishes Lamoille River, Waterbury Reservoir, Winooski River
The Fly Rod Shop’s guided days run on the rivers around Stowe, the Lamoille, the Winooski, the Dog and the Little River, and on still water, with boat trips out of Lake Elmore, the Waterbury Reservoir and Lake Eden. On the Winooski the shop’s own water notes put the best wade fishing between the Middlesex Dam and the Route 2 bridge at Waterbury, a mixture of pocket water, deeper runs, riffles and pools holding wild browns and rainbows alongside stocked fish. The two-mile trophy stretch through Waterbury town carries two-year-old trout and broodstock running sixteen to twenty-two inches, with fish to twenty-six not out of the question. Mid-May to late June and mid-September to mid-October fish best. Trips sell as private half-day or full-day instructional tours, as a group stream tour, and as non-motorised scenic drift boat floats in the fall.
