Toccoa Trout Expeditions

The beat is the Toccoa River tailwater below Blue Ridge Dam, about fifteen miles of cold water from which a typical day covers four to five miles. Brown and rainbow trout are the targets, with smallmouth available as a bonus. Because the river is dam-fed the temperature stays in range through the calendar, and the operation states there is no bad month on the tailwater, so trips run year-round rather than to a narrow season. Anglers fish from NRS Slipstream rafts carrying one to two rods per boat, which makes the day a genuine float rather than a bank walk. Three float lengths are sold, at four, six and eight hours. All gear and tackle are provided, and each boat carries a cooler with ice and water, emergency ponchos and a first-aid kit. Fishing licences remain the angler’s own responsibility. Instructional days are also available on the water, covering both fly casting and how to row the boat.
