Trout Creek Flies guides the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam from a base at 1155 Little Hole Road in Dutch John, Utah, at the head of the tailwater. Guided days run on all sections of the river and on Flaming Gorge Reservoir itself, and guides teach dry fly, streamer and nymph technique as part of the day. The fishery holds trophy brown and rainbow trout in clear tailwater flows. Terrestrial fishing is a signature of the warm months, with the cicada hatch drawing the most attention, followed by ants, crickets and beetles; sow bugs, worms and scuds carry the subsurface fishing through the rest of the year. Nine guides work for the shop, among them competition winning fly tyers, certified casting instructors and rowers the shop describes as some of the best on the water. John Sparger has guided the river since 2006, and Brandon Feller, who writes the shop’s river reports, is a Fly Fishers International certified casting instructor. Trips are booked directly through the shop.
