Walleye Patrol Guide Service

Walleye Patrol Guide Service is run by Captain Danny Woodke out of Gillett and works three connected northeast Wisconsin fisheries: the bay of Green Bay with its tributary rivers, the Lake Winnebago system, and the Wolf River system. The Wolf River page is built around the spring spawning migration, when large numbers of walleyes push up the river, and around the concentrated pre spawn and post spawn holding water that follows. March is the month the service points to for that run. Vertical jigging with live bait is the main technique described, with crankbait casting worked in as conditions allow. Wolf River trips launch from Johnny’s Little Shop of Bait on West Wolf River Avenue in New London. Two lengths are sold, a four to five hour outing and an eight to nine hour day, each priced for one or two anglers with modest increases for a third and fourth person, and a deposit holds the date. Woodke lists more than twenty years of walleye experience.

Lake Winnebago is the second fishery sold on this system, and Winnebago days launch from the Grundman boat launch on Grundman Lane at Oshkosh. The walleye fishing there fills in from May through July, as fish drop back down out of the Wolf River after the spawning run and spread out over the lake.
