Finstincts is an outfitting business based in Graford, Texas, at 5944 Hwy 254 in Palo Pinto County, about an hour west of Dallas-Fort Worth. Founder J.D. Roberts began guiding horse-packed backcountry trips in Yellowstone in 2011 and has since fished more than 200 rivers across the American West; he now spends over 225 days a year on his home water. It is an Orvis-endorsed operation and fields a bench of roughly ten guides, among them Kade Wooton, Preston Wilson, Paul Parman, Beau Kelley, Cole Risinger and fly designer Josh Oakley. Beyond its home stretch the outfit sells multi-night Pecos River expeditions with chef-crafted meals, hosted trips to Montana’s Yellowstone country and British Columbia bull-trout rivers, night outings on Possum Kingdom Lake from a 21-foot center console, and spring turkey hunts.
