Grand Lake Lodge
Grand Lake Stream, Maine
Grand Lake Lodge began in 1946, when Art McKenzie bought a single log cabin on the shore of West Grand Lake and, with local men newly home from the war, built seven more along the shoreline; his cabin became the main lodge, and its dining room is where guests were served. Eight decades on it is still a full-service sporting camp at 86 Canal Street in Grand Lake Stream, Maine, letting housekeeping cabins that vary in size and occupancy, and running boating alongside the angling. The guiding is done by registered Maine guides in a village whose guide tradition the lodge traces by name through the Moores, Spragues, Bonus, Yates, Bagleys and Whites, men known for working from Grand Lake canoes and cooking for their sports on the lakeshore. Ted Williams and Buffalo Bob Smith were among the lodge’s guests. Rates for cabins and for guided trips are published separately, and bookings are taken on 207-796-5584.
