Tailing Tide Guide Service is run by Capt. John Mauser out of Swansboro, on North Carolina’s Crystal Coast, drawing on 35 years fishing the state’s waters and a marine biology degree from UNC Wilmington earned before a stint working for the North Carolina Aquariums. The river work is a seasonal away trip; the home programme is Crystal Coast inshore, nearshore and ocean fishing plus Cape Lookout and the blackwater Chowan. Mauser founded the American rod maker Mauser Fly Fishing in 2017, co-founded the Carolina Fly Fishing Academy in 2019, helped start the local Project Healing Waters chapter for disabled veterans, and sat on the Cape Lookout Albacore Festival board from 2014 to 2019.
