Wiley’s Flies is a fly shop, motel and guide service at 1179 Sara-Placid Road in Ray Brook, New York, four miles from Lake Placid, run by Vince Wilcox. It stocks more than 25,000 flies along with the materials to tie them, and carries Simms, RIO, St. Croix, Fishpond, Redington, Montana Fly Company, Korkers, Lamson, Galvan, Hareline, Wapsi and Umpqua among other brands; shop customers can stay at the motel when they come to the Lake Placid area. The business is fully insured and every guide on the staff holds a New York State guide licence. Beyond the guiding and the retail counter it runs ice-fishing trips, a guide school, a musky camp and e-bike rentals, and keeps an events calendar and United States river-flow pages for the region. Its guides also work the West Branch of the Ausable, the Chateaugay, the Chazy, the Salmon, the St. Regis and the Raquette, and the shop has been voted the area’s best fly shop nine straight seasons.
