River Through Atlanta

River Through Atlanta has guided the Chattahoochee since 1994 and is an Orvis endorsed operation working the tailwater below Buford Dam. The company’s river page describes the fishery as 48 river miles of designated trout water running from the dam down to Standing Peachtree Creek, bordered by thousands of acres of National Park Service land inside the metro area. Water drawn from 130 feet down keeps the river cold, though generation from one smaller unit and two larger ones makes flows and temperatures shift on short notice. Spring brings the caddis hatches the guides point to as the strongest stretch of the season. Brown trout dominate and roughly 15 percent of them are naturally reproduced in the river. Drift boat and wade trips both run $375 for a half day and $525 for a full day, trophy brown trout days and bass and carp days cost more, and a six hour introduction to fly fishing class includes lunch. Stripers are also part of the schedule.
