New River Fly Fishing
Willis, Virginia · Fishes New River
New River Fly Fishing works out of Willis, in Floyd County, Virginia, and runs its New River days as float trips from an inflatable raft. The river is sold as a full day or a three quarter day for one or two anglers, with rods, flies, waders and boots supplied when needed and lunch left to the guests. Smallmouth bass are the main quarry on the New, with muskie, walleye and striped bass also listed for that water and muskie days handled by a guide who specializes in them. The same operation guides the Smith River tailwater for wild brown trout and stocked rainbows, on both float and wade schedules, and holds about two miles of spring fed private water stocked with larger rainbow trout that is fished on foot from September through June. Trips are booked year round. Several guides work under the business, among them Steve Howard, Alex Ware and Mike Smith. Half day instructional sessions covering casting, a gear overview and supervised fishing are also on the published rate sheet.
