Farmington River Trading Company
Bloomfield, Connecticut · Fishes Farmington River
Farmington River Trading Company is a Bloomfield, Connecticut shop whose people have been fishing the Farmington since the 1960s. Guided days are offered as wade trips or as floats in drift boats and large inflatable rafts rigged to carry two fly anglers, which opens up sections of the river that are difficult to cover on foot. Half day, full day and night trips are all on the schedule. Beyond the Farmington the guides also work the Naugatuck, Shetucket, Housatonic, Connecticut and Deerfield rivers and the saltwater of Long Island Sound, so the species list stretches from brown trout through smallmouth and largemouth bass, striped bass, northern pike, walleye, shad and carp. Atlantic salmon fishing is highlighted from November into March, spring brings the striped bass run into the rivers, and trout fishing on the Farmington itself is described as a year round proposition rather than a seasonal one.
