Elk Springs Resort

The Elk sits on the resort’s doorstep near the Randolph and Pocahontas county line, and guided days on it are wade trips, with waders, boots and a rod provided. Fishing is fly only and catch and release, with no more than two clients to a guide, and the calendar is built around the river’s mayfly hatches. A four-hour trip is $275 for one angler and $375 for two; six hours runs $325 and $425. The guides do not sell West Virginia licences, so anglers buy their own before they arrive. Beyond the main river the same guides run backcountry stream trips for brook trout, walking in to small water that holds wild fish well away from the road.
