Trips work the tidal Potomac from the tide line just upriver of Washington, D.C. down to the Route 301 bridge, roughly fifty miles of river, plus every Maryland and Virginia tributary along the way. The service calls it a resource many experts have proclaimed the finest tidal largemouth bass fishery in the world, and rates it a great February to December fishery. The average bass runs about two and a half pounds, with four, five and six pound fish described as fairly common. Anglers fish from large, comfortable bass boats powered by Mercury outboards, taking one or two people at a time, and the day includes on-water instruction with the guide locating fish and demonstrating technique. A full day is seven to eight hours on the water including ground time at $400 plus expenses; a half day is four hours at $300 plus expenses; a day booked with Ken Penrod himself is $450 plus expenses. Booking takes a $200 refundable security deposit, with check or cash preferred.
