Allagash Guide Service
Allagash, Maine · Fishes Allagash River
Allagash trips here run from a lodge in the village of Allagash, where the Allagash and the St. John meet, and the business sells three different levels of help: fully guided trips, a transportation service that puts a party and its gear on the water, and a shuttle. The fully guided option is a three-day trip the shop calls the Relaxer, with all meals, equipment, gate fees and in-trip transport included, priced at 850 dollars a paddler for parties of four to ten, while three and five day guided trips are quoted at 3600 and 5400 dollars as a group rate for one to three people. Because the waterway has many access points, self-guided lengths can be chosen to fit: seven days and ninety-five miles from Johnson Pond, ninety-three from Chamberlain Bridge, four to five days and sixty-two miles from Churchill Dam, three days from Umsaskis Thoroughfare, two from Henderson Bridge, or a single seventeen-mile day from Michaud Farm. Rangers along the corridor maintain the campsites. Guided trips are limited to the peak spring and summer months, and North Maine Woods charges gate and nightly camping fees on top.
