Elk River Inn & Cabins
Slaty Fork, West Virginia · Fishes Cranberry River, Williams River
The outfitter’s fly-fishing page names the Greenbrier, Williams and Cranberry rivers as the waters it fishes beyond its own doorstep stream, the Old Field Fork at the head of the Elk, and says each river asks for a different style and different flies. The core trip is an eight hour wade-and-fish day at 399 dollars for the first angler and 149 dollars for each additional, capped at two anglers to a guide, lunch included, with an evening trip from about four o’clock to dark at 329 dollars available from mid May. Waders, boots and a rod are 35 dollars an angler on a guided day. Wild brook trout trips push into remote mountain valleys and steep drainages for fish the outfitter describes as having survived the cutting of the virgin forest and the arrival of German browns and western rainbows. Euro nymphing days run six hours at 379 dollars, and a musky float on fly or conventional tackle is 595 dollars for one angler and 695 for two. A West Virginia licence with a trout stamp is required.
