New England Fly Company
Portland, Maine
New England Fly Company is a guided fly-fishing business, not a livery or a rental outfit, built around two principals who met at a fly-tying night in Portland: Isaac Niblack, who runs guide operations and brought guiding experience from Michigan’s trout water, and Rowan Confrey, a professional photographer who leads operations. Trips are sold as packages. The Signature package is $500 for a four-hour half day for one or two anglers and $750 for a six-hour full day, and includes a registered Maine guide, rods, reels, terminal tackle, snacks and drinks. The all-inclusive Blue-Ribbon package, at $950 and $1,400, adds professional photography with digital downloads, a hand-crafted Maine wooden fly box, boot and wader rental, a streamside lunch, fishing licences, door-to-door pickup within thirty minutes and a guaranteed one-to-two guide ratio. An hourly After Work Special runs weekday evenings in summer, and four-hour lessons are $600 for up to four. Other waters listed are the West Branch Penobscot, the Kennebec East Outlet, the Presumpscot, the Crooked River, Rangeley and Moosehead. The company also sells its own hand-tied flies and bespoke Maine fly collections.
