Three different hulls work the Upper James here: a jet boat at $650 carrying up to three anglers, a drift boat at $550, and a raft, with the drift and raft trips taking two. Everything is a full day and all tackle and baits are included in the price. The calendar is broken into named windows – fall from mid-September to December 1, a winter and pre-spawn stretch from December through March, an April period fished for smallmouth only, post-spawn in May and June, and a multi-species summer across July and August. A valid Virginia freshwater licence is required.
