Ed Lombardo Fly Fishing
Mapleville, Rhode Island · Fishes Wood River
Ed Lombardo guides and teaches fly fishing in Rhode Island and treats the Wood River in the southwestern corner of the state as his signature water. He calls it a brown trout river of the first order and fishes it from May into September for brown and rainbow trout. His hatch notes lean on caddis as the mainstay of the season and add black quills, Hendricksons, gray fox, mahogany duns, blue winged olives and the giant hexagenia limbata mayfly. Days on the Wood are fished on foot with on stream instruction, and the stated approach is to let the angler decide how and where the day is fished. Full days are $400 for one and $500 for two, half days $350 and $400, with lunch and equipment included. Lombardo has more than forty five years of fly fishing behind him and has instructed for over thirty, serving as chief fly fishing instructor at Addieville East Farm and Deer Creek Farm and as lead instructor for the state’s aquatic education program.
